FORTY-EIGHTH IN A SERIES

NEW ENVIRONMENT PROVIDES HOPE FOR DIALOGUE

Honest, open communication. That’s what’s needed.

It’s nice to hear a growing number of the city’s elected representatives echoing this sentiment. It’s time to engage in an open dialogue designed to reach the same end – a fair and reasonable solution to the eminent domain battle between the city and Pennichuck.

Perhaps never before has the opportunity to bring resolution to this issue been better. New aldermen who are receptive to obtaining all the facts will soon be on board. A new president of the Board of Aldermen, who has publicly expressed a desire for open communication, will also be in place. These new voices will join existing aldermen with a willingness to search for answers.

The city has already spent or committed more than $1.2 million on the eminent domain battle to date. With no hearings scheduled on this matter until 2007, an open and forthright discussion is the only way to reach a reasonable resolution without wasting millions and millions more of taxpayer dollars.

We are hopeful that the Board of Aldermen will join the overwhelming majority of Nashua residents – including over 1,800 members of SmartWater - in saying that we need to talk.
