IS IT
TIME FOR A WAKE UP CALL,
OR MAYBE JUST A PHONE CALL?
Dear Customers
and Shareholders,
Two years ago,
the city of Nashua began the process of trying to take the assets of
Pennichuck. Since then the city has filed testimony with the New Hampshire
Public Utilities Commission, continuously threatened eminent domain,
made a hostile attempt to get the assets of the entire company and has
now begun the formal process to take the utility assets through eminent
domain – not only in Nashua but incredibly throughout the state of New
Hampshire.
Already the
city has spent or committed $1.2 million dollars for legal and consultant
expenses. And the process is just beginning. When all is said and done,
the takeover process is likely to cost millions of taxpayer dollars,
last for years, with a significant risk that the city will not be successful
or will find the cost too expensive to proceed.

Last December, Pennichuck began
surveying the Nashua community on a number of issues, and since then has
conducted a total of five market research surveys. Our surveys consistently
show opposition to
the city’s action to acquire Pennichuck by eminent domain. We think it
may be time for city leaders to
listen to what their constituents want.
Here’s what
we’ve heard:
- If a referendum were
held today, nearly two-thirds of Nashua residents say they would
vote against a measure authorizing the city to move forward
to take over Pennichuck.
- Nearly three-fourths
of the residents say they are opposed to the city’s costly
attempt to take Pennichuck by eminent domain.
- An overwhelming
majority say they approve of Pennichuck’s water services to
the city.
- By a two to one margin
residents say they want Pennichuck – not a regional water authority
– to run their water system.
Maybe it’s time city residents
call their Alderman and let their views be heard. And maybe its time
Aldermen were asked one simple question:
Why are you pouring taxpayer
money down the drain on an action that a majority of Nashua residents
don’t even support?
We hope you’ll call your
Alderman today at (603) 589-3030 and let your voice be heard on this
issue.
